After making your home’s exterior look its best during summer, it’s time to give your interiors some attention too. I would recommend doing it the other way around – refreshing the interiors during the warm months when you are spending more time outside and the outdoors during the colder months when you are inside. However, that idea is out of the picture. So, let’s scratch that.
One of the easiest ways of giving your interiors a new look is by painting the walls and ceilings. This can be done with the one and only: emulsion paint. You might have heard this name be thrown around but what truly is this… emulsion? What is it for? How to use it?

What is emulsion paint?
Emulsion paint is a water-based paint with vinyl or acrylic added for durability which is most commonly used for interiors walls and ceilings. As Buckets of Tea explains, “As a water-based paint, emulsion paint will dry quickly and will make cleaning paintbrushes, paint rollers and any other decorating tools much easier. Emulsion paint is also odourless, will provide good coverage and will not crack.”

We all want the best for our homes, right? So, “What’s the best emulsion paint?” might be something you’re wondering. There’s no best or worst paint (I’m sure there is but I haven’t tried them all!). However, there are clear choices of high-quality emulsion paints to use.
Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion
If you are looking for a washable paint, Farrow & Ball Modern Emulsion will be your best choice. Dulux Trade Diamond Matt
Another great emulsion option is the Dulux Trade Diamond Matt White Emulsion. Lylia Rose comments that this is a tough and cleanable emulsion that offers a smooth and matt finish. Tikkurila Anti-Reflex 2
“Tikkurila Anti-Reflex is the best white matt emulsion for ceilings by a country mile!” shared a decorator on the Decorators Forum. This emulsion is best suited for ceilings and due to its dull matt anti-reflex finish, any imperfections will be invisible – no roller marks, no picture framing.
