What are synthetic hair extensions (and why choose them)?

If you’ve ever looked into getting hair extensions, chances are you’ll have come across a wide range of various hair options.

The main choice will be between these two – human and synthetic hair. While it’s reasonably obvious what human hair is, what exactly are synthetic hair extensions? We figured it’s time someone cleared that up, so here’s a quick explanation of what synthetic hair extensions actually are, and why you might want to choose them over the other options.

What are they?

Synthetic hair extensions are an affordable and low-maintenance alternative to human hair extensions. They tend to be made from various synthetic fibres, such as Kanekalon or Toyokalon, which are specially designed to mimic the look and feel of ‘real’ human hair. Synthetic hair extensions are often available in a wide range of colours, lengths, and textures, making them a versatile option for those looking to add volume, colour, or length to their natural hair style.

Affordability

One of the main benefits of synthetic hair extensions is their affordability. They’re often much cheaper than human hair extensions, and you can find them in online stores like LullaBellz, making them a great option for those of us on a budget. They’re also very low maintenance, as they don’t require regular washing, conditioning, or styling, especially compared to human hair.

Synthetic hair extensions can also withstand heat (up to a certain degree), so you might be able to use curling irons, straighteners, and even blow-dryers on them without damaging them. It’s important to check with the supplier on just how much heat they can tolerate, as some synthetic extensions might melt at high temperatures.

Ease of application

Another benefit of synthetic hair extensions is that they’re very easy to apply. They can be attached to the natural hair using various different methods, such as glue, clips, or sew-ins. They’re also very easy to remove, and can be reused multiple times.

Drawbacks

However, as is the case with everything, synthetic hair extensions aren’t perfect. One of the main downsides of synthetic hair extensions is that they don’t last for quite as long as human hair extensions. Synthetic fibres tend not to be quite as durable as human hair, and they can become tangled, matted, and frizzy over time, in part because they just don’t hold natural oils in the same way. Synthetic hair extensions also don’t hold curls quite as well, and, as you’d expect, they don’t look quite as natural as human hair.

To round up, synthetic hair extensions are an affordable and low-maintenance alternative to human hair extensions.

They’re made from synthetic fibres that mimic the look and feel of human hair, and are available in a wide range of colours, lengths, and textures. They’re easy to apply and remove, and are less likely to cause irritation or allergic reactions.

However, they do not last as long as human hair extensions, and don’t always look as natural. It’s best to weigh the pros and cons, and your criteria for what you’re looking for, before making a decision to choose synthetic or natural hair extensions.
