I love watches. They’re stylish accessories as well as a practical time piece. Although I always have my phone on me, I like using a watch because there’s just a classic feel to wearing one and telling the time with one. They add a bit of pop and interest to my wardrobe and are more practical and suitable for every day, work and business wear than a bracelet. When I take my phone out of my pocket, I’m always tempted to check notifications and often get distracted, a watch provides a single purpose and does it well. And they’re just amazing pieces of craftsmanship, so I always enjoy discovering new brands.
Nordgreen is a Danish watch company offering quartz minimalistic, affordable watches from chief designer Jakob Wagner. Jakob Wagner has won four Red Dot Awards, which is a prestigious design award that gets around 7,000 entries a year. As someone who cares deeply about the environment and is always looking for ways to be more green, I was pleased to find the green in Nordgreen does refer to sustainability, including partnering with sustainable manufacturers, using recyclable packaging and social responsibility through ‘giving back’ programs.
When it comes to being green and fashion accessories, I think it’s very important to buy just a few high quality key pieces that you can wear again and again for decades to come, rather than having hundreds of items you may only wear once and then gather dust. Having a minimalist, yet sophisticated watch means you can pair it with a vast range of outfits, from every day work in the office and to business meetings, to casual lunches with friends and family, or pairing with smartwear when you go out celebrating.
I chose the Philosopher Watch, in a Silver dial, with the smaller size of 36mm (40mm is also available). It arrived promptly, well packaged and boxed.
To help mix things up a bit, different straps are available with a variety of different colour leathers (including several vegan leather options) and four metal mesh straps as well. I had a hard time deciding between the Dove Grey Vegan Leather and the Silver Mesh to match my chosen Silver Philosopher Dial (also available in Gold, Rose Gold and Gunmetal), but if you’re having a problem choosing, there are discounts and bundles for additional straps available.
I really like the simple yet sophisticated look of this watch. It’s small, yet still looks and feels substantial. It fits on the wrist really well and is comfortable to wear the entire day. It’s easy to tell the time and I love the little date box (which I need more than ever right now!) and I really feel this would be a stylish accompaniment to almost any outfit I own.
