Tails Subscription Dog Food – 4 week trial for £1

This is Skye. She’s a 10 year old German Shepherd and has lived with us since she was 8 weeks old. She’s a family member and has brought us constant joy and love. She’s getting older and her legs are weakening and sometimes she needs painkillers, but she is still such a happy dog.

German Shepherds as a breed are prone to digestive issues and as Skye has gotten older we’ve found her having trouble digesting her food. At one point her coat was thinning and it looked dull and (sorry, TMI!) her bowels were very loose and irregular. No fun for anyone. I actually found out about Tails* from an online advert where it said I could get a 2 week trial for £1 and then cancel. £1 for 2 weeks of dog food seemed like a good deal and with an online cancellation (no having to call up and get through to pushy sales people!) there was no risk involved.

What is Tails?

Tails.com* is a subscription based monthly dog food delivery. They tailor the dog food to your requirements. For example, I put in her weight and her breed and age, and I ticked the box that says she has joint problems. Her food is the exact proportion for what she needs – and it comes with extra glucosamine. I ticked that she has digestive problems with wheat, so her food is wheat free.

The delivery comes in two separate resealable bags with a jug that’s the exact size for her portion, so I don’t need to worry if she is getting the right amount of food. I feed her entirely on dry food; but they do sell wet food as well. She wolfs down the dry food without any need for mixing, so it must be tasty. Can’t say I’ve tried it though.

So is it any good?

I’ve kept up the subscription for over a year now and have no plans of changing. With a large 45KG dog with some health issues, the cost is £38 a month. I feel the quality is really there and this cost is justified – and really not that much higher than what I was paying previously from the supermarket because she eats so much! Her poop is perfect (what a weird statement!), her coat is in better condition and she’s put on a bit of weight which she needed. Nothing is going to be a miracle cure for her joints right now, but looking at the ingredients list I’ve been very happy with it and I think it’s the best I can offer her. For a smaller dog the cost will be much less, but any size dog is eligible for the 2 week £1 trial.

They’ve also recently started stocking treats, poo bags and other accessories, but I haven’t personally tried these yet.

Logistics

You can log onto the website at any time and change the information – if your dog puts on weight, if you change their activity levels, if you need to change their health requirements etc. The next months feed will be re-calibrated. If you go on holiday or end up with too much food; you can pause it or change the delivery date, and cancellation is a quick easy online thing with no hard sell or hassle.

(*) By using my code, CHRISPBK you can get a four week trial for £1. If you decide after that trial you don’t want it, you can cancel online. If you decide to continue, I get a £10 credit on my next order as a thank you. Skye and I would really appreciate you using my code and giving it a go – but if you don’t want to, that’s fine, the website with no affiliate code is www.tails.com and I hope it works out for you!

Oh what’s that? You want to see some pictures of her as a puppy? Okay… you twisted my arm!
