This year the Queen will be celebrating her Platinum Jubilee. 70 years on the throne, wow! Queen Elizabeth actually ascended to the throne on 6th February, but since this weekend also marks the death of her father, she chose to move the celebrations to the first weekend in June, to match the previous Golden and Diamond Jubilees. As a celebration we’ll be getting an extra bank holiday this year and have a bit of a weird weekend where we have Bank Holidays on Thursday and Friday! The important dates are:
Spring Bank Holiday – Thursday 2nd June 2022
Platinum Jubilee Bank Holiday – Friday 3rd June 2022
Queen’s Platinum Jubilee – Sunday 5th June 2022
There will be lots of events on the whole weekend, and some the weekend before as well to celebrate so get decorating at home before heading out to an event! I’ve collated all the Queen’s Jubilee events suitable for families around Cardiff and South Wales that I could find. Please remember that I am not an organizer for any of these Platinum Jubilee events, but I’ve provided links to the organizers pages or websites so you can get updates and contact them if you have questions.
In addition to these public events expect some street closures and local street parties too! Why not get together with your neighbours and celebrate outside with a BBQ or afternoon tea?
