If it makes a noise, William is in. At two, he may not have a fine understanding of music, but he knows well enough that he likes it! We love to dance and wiggle and turn anything into a drum set. Music is important to me too, as I played in an orchestra for many years (trumpet) and also play classical piano, so maybe William will take after me, but if not, music is an incredibly important part of child development anyway.
Playing a musical instrument benefits toddlers and children by:
- Increasing their motor skills and coordination
- Improves memory
- Creating a bond between parents or siblings and children
- Helping form bonds and friendships with other children
- Can help create a routine, preparing them for structured play at pre-school
- Uses energy and burns calories, helping to keep them healthy
- Helps with sensory development
- Singing helps vocabulary and speech
- Lifts their mood or can soothe them when upset
Getting Hands On with the Halilit Toddler Music Orchestra
We were sent Halilit Toddler Music Orchestra to try out, which is suitable for infants from 12 months old. It contains five different musical instruments, including a brightly coloured ocean drum, a rattle, spinner, bells and a xylophone. It even comes with a music sheet for the xylophone, which is a great way for mum and dad to get involved and lead the orchestra!
We found all the pieces to be robust (we’re in a throwing stage!) with rounded edges to make them safe for little ones. It’s no surprise that they’re well thought out and designed for toddlers because Halilit have a lot of experience with pre-school products. They’re easy to get to grips with and so much fun for everyone. William’s favourite was the bells, but he loved watching me play the xylophone and demanded I play again and again! I might be a pianist but the xylophone is definitely a new challenge!
You can see some absolutely adorable youngsters having fun with this set ready for Christmas with the Aw Factor. Can you spot William in the mix? This is his first appearance on YouTube and I’ll be honest, I’m feeling pretty proud and loved watching all these little ones have fun.
Halilit Presents ‘The Aw Factor‘
The Toddler Music Orchestra set can be purchased from John Lewis and will make a fantastic gift for some very happy toddlers. We’ve had so much fun and got some great smiles with our set and I can see them being used again and again over the next year.
Note we were sent Halilit’s Toddler Music Orchestra to review.
