Freddie the Firefly is a bright, attractive baby toy with a multitude of bits and pieces. It is made by Lamaze, who have a wide range of high quality baby toys, many of which I bought for William as a baby. It’s quite a unique toy in that it’s suitable from birth – but as William grew he developed along with it, and I could track his development by which parts of the toy he was now interacting with. You can buy Lamaze toys on Amazon, but you can also find them in supermarkets and high street shops such as Boots and TK Maxx.

Suitable for starting from birth, the back of Lamaze Freddie the Firefly is a black and white design. With bold stripes and circle patterns, it will appeal even to developing newborn eyes. William used to sit there and stare at it for hours, although to be honest, he was also enamored of the blanket on the sofa, the wallpaper and his pampers bag! It’s impossible to know what a baby is thinking, but I really feel like Freddie the Firefly was popular from birth.
For such a small toy Freddie the Firefly really packs a lot in. He has crinkle wings that rustle when grabbed, with a hidden mirror inside. He has little knotted pieces for grabbing hold of, rings that clink together and a pull out teether on a sturdy piece of fabric. He has little pockets and even a squeaker, all in the most marvelous brightly coloured fabrics. He has a friendly face, and although William is only 4 months old right now he is already in love with this toy and smiles when he sees it.
From a practical point of view it has a simple ring at the top to attach to a mobile, cot or pushchair. So much stimulation into something that will easily fit on the pushchair or into my bag means it can come anywhere with us and if he’s awake whilst we’re at the restaurant we whip it out and he’s enthralled.
This is the best newborn toy I’ve purchased for him yet – I would recommend buying it for a newborn if you can, and letting them grow and learn to explore it. It would make a great gift at a baby shower or birth, but equally I think it will be engaging up to 12 months or more.
Freddie the Firefly is available on Amazon or most stores selling baby accessories / toys and is made by Tomy under their Lamaze range, a company with an excellent reputation for baby education and stimulation.
