Hobbies for Mums in Their Spare Time

As mums, we know that finding a spare moment to even have a shower or go to the toilet in peace is not always possible – but it couldn’t be more important that we take some time for ourselves.

Social media influencers might make it seem that the only way to get that all-important ‘me time’ is to go away for a weekend, have a spa day, or otherwise just get away from the house. For most of us, that just isn’t feasible – but that doesn’t mean we should give up on the idea of carving out some time for ourselves.

One of the ways we can do that is through the introduction of a hobby. You might already have something in mind – something you did before you were a parent, for example, or something that you have always wanted to try.

The Benefits of Having a Hobby

If the idea of having a hobby is something that you are toying with, there are several reasons why It is a good idea.

  • Stress Relief: Taking a break from the humdrum of the world is a great way to relieve stress, especially if you are choosing something that is more physical or hands on.
  • Emotional Fulfilment: Finding yourself is important – it is fulfilling to find something that you are good at (other than being a mum, of course).
  • Mental Stimulation: You love your kids, but sometimes it can be boring going through the same routines all the time. A hobby can engage your brain and give you that mental stimulation that you crave.
  • Reconnection with Passion: You were a person before you became a mum, and by taking on a hobby relating to a passion that you used to have can help you feel great.
  • Social Connection: A hobby that gets you out of the house and into a situation where you can meet new people is great for making social connections – and that is an essential part of self-care for many people, even those who identify as introverted.
