We are all big fans of flavour and spice in this family – from the two year old up! I’ve honestly never had any problem with him eating spicy food (I think he takes after his dad) and I’m always looking for ways of getting lots of flavour into the meals I cook. Enter Life of Spice, an award-winning British company that makes great rubs in a variety of different medleys. They produce in small batches keeping everything they sell fresh and it’s supposed in premium quality aluminium tins. These make great gifts, are very easy to use and keep the spices fresh.
Life of Spice has a wide range of collections, but I’m looking at two in particular, American Rub (perfect for my American husband and son) and the Italian Collection (amazing for me!).
Life of Spice ‘American Rub Collection’

This gift boxed collection comes with 5 different tins, as well as a set of recipe cards. The contents are:
Memphis Belle – A sweet and spicy authentic Tennessee barbecue rub. The paprika, garlic and mustard celery seeds really blend well whilst the sugar adds sweetness and chipotle adds a tons of flavour. This would work well on any meat as a rub, or in pulled pork. This was my husbands favourite!
Kansas City Rib Rub – As the name suggests this Kansas City blend is absolutely perfect for ribs. It has a little bit more bite than some rib rubs, with ancho chilli and cayenne pepper in there, but is definitely more flavour than heat. I created an amazing rib rub using ketchup and this rub – far better than any shop bought rib sauce I’ve ever tasted!
Much Adobo About Nothing – A full flavoured blend of sea salt, paprika, pepper, chipotle powder, oregano, cumin, onion, garlic, demerara sugar and rice flour. This Adobo mix was my favourite of the lot (although I loved them all). We used it in Chicken Fajitas, but I’m looking forward to trying it in a bolognese sauce as I think it will give it a full flavoured kick.
Savannah Gold – This Georgian mix is an authentic mustard and garlic rub which I would love to add to pork chops. Interestingly one of the recommended recipes by Life of Spice for this is Toad in the Hole, a very British dish I wouldn’t have thought to pair with, but I can see how the mustard would work really well with it.

Sweet Home Alabama – A deeply smoky fragrance and flavour, with a rich mix of herbs and spices that offers a delicious rub with a bit of a kick. The recipe card for this one is a simple southern fried chicken, packed with flavour!
Life of Spice ‘Italian Collection’

The Italian Collection is a set of three fantastic looking tins along with a set of recipe cards to accompany. It comes with:
Italian Herbs – A clasic selection of Italian herbs that you could use in a great range of dishes. I personally use mixed herbs like this in bolognese or as a topping to pizza. It contains Oregano, thyme, rosemary, basil, marjoram and sage and I could really smell instantly how fresh they were when I opened the tin.
Pepper Smurf – Absolutely love the name of this one and the flavour doesn’t disappoint either. This is the perfect pepper mix for steak, with a delightful hint of citrus in the mix too.
The Italian Job – This is an interesting sea sealt mix, with herbs, lemon peel and orange peel, bringing a zesty Mediterranean feel to the table that would work well sprinkled on top of salads, potato or chicken dishes.
Life of Spice have given me a unique discount to share with my readers so you can get even better value with your first order. Use code LOS–NDBLG to get a FREE TIN when you order either the Italian Collection or American Rub Collection sets.
