Family-Friendly Destinations Perfect for Last-Minute Escapes

Going on holiday with your family can be the reason for many childhood memories. Making time for travel is beneficial for all as it allows both kids and adults to be exposed to different cultures, landscapes, and cuisines.

When life gets a bit crazy, holidays are pushed to the side. However, escaping for a short while can be exactly what’s needed and help reset things. Booking a last-minute family holiday is perfect for boosting moods and replenishing connections. Here are some destinations perfect for family holidays.

  1. Canary Islands

There is nothing better than escaping the dreary British weather for some winter sun, and the Canary Islands have that in abundance.

This cluster of islands off the coast of northwestern Africa is blessed with sunshine all year round, pretty much guaranteeing a vitamin D boost. The Canary Islands are a relatively short flight from the UK, which ensures travellers of all ages will be able to manage, though toys for the plane are still needed!

  1. Algarve, Portugal

Another place to head to for winter sunshine is Portugal’s Algarve. Framed with sandy beaches, families commonly head here for a bit of paradise.

Adults can spend their days lounging on the beach, whilst kids play in the calm waters. There are also lots of different activities you could try. From horse riding along scenic routes and hiking popular trails, to water sport activities, there’s something suitable for all.

  1. Costa del Sol, Spain

Costa del Sol is a classic family holiday destination. This area is renowned for being family-friendly due to its perfect mix of resorts, theme parks, and cultural attractions.

Many of the resorts have well-reviewed kids’ clubs, giving adults a little break when needed. For something different, and those a tad more adventurous, explore local areas, including the Nerja Caves. These cavernous underground chambers are full of wonder and capture the imagination of all who visit. The space is full of impressive rock formations and stalagmites and stalactites.

  1. Madeira

Madeira is perfect for families who like a mix of relaxation and adventure, whilst being extremely safe. The beautiful botanical gardens are a pleasure to wander around, especially in the milder climate. If visiting, make sure you ride the cable car, which flies above the impressive garden scape below and take in the view.

The surrounding walking trails provide natural beauty, allowing you to see another side of the island. Finish off a day of walking with a hearty dinner of Sopa de Trigo, a traditional soup made of cornmeal and different additions.
