This week I was testing out tastecard, which I’ve recently been introduced to. I was given a complimentary subscription to share my experience so I immediately got stuck in. As my regular readers know, I’m gluten free, so sometimes finding a restaurant can be a bit tricky, but Bella Italia offers gluten free options for a lot of their menu, so that was the main reason I chose it, but I was pleasantly surprised with the range of restaurants and the gluten free options available through the tastecard app. The Bella Italia restaurant we visited is in Cardiff’s Red Dragon Centre. This centre has Hollywood Bowl, Odeon and a variety of restaurants. It’s a fantastic place to visit with the family, for a date night or a night out with friends.
Choosing a restaurant or activity with tastecard is super easy. You simply open the app and put in your location to see what’s available. The options for eating out using tastecard in Cardiff include Bella Italia, Prezzo, Cafe Rouge, Zizzi, Caffe Nero, Dominos, Pizza Hut, Blue Jay Bar, ASK Italian just to name a few. There are loads more Cardiff restaurant deals available including lots of independent restraurants. There are also discounts on activities such as visiting Odeon or Vue cinema. Once you select the venue the information on what the discount is and how to book is available, so it’s easy to see what tastecard can offer you and how you book.
Further afield tastecard offers discounts on days out such as Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, LegoLand, Madame Tussauds, SeaLife and more, so if you’re heading for a big day out it’s worth checking the savings. I’ve only named a few so if you like saving money, check it out. You can get a 60 day trial for just £1 and then it’s £39.99 a year, which is only £3.33 a month.
The discount available at Bella Italia is 2 for 1 on starters, mains and desserts for up to 4 people, Sunday to Thursday, which is a significant saving. We let the waitress know when we arrived we were using a tastecard, and she advised us of the exclusions, for example we couldn’t use it on the set menu. We had three courses to fully test out tastecard (and because I love food). For starters our group ordered Garlic Dough Balls, Meatballs, Mushroom Al-Forno (Gluten Free) and Cheese Filled Gnocchi Bites.

For mains we had Marco Polo (Strozzapreti pasta and pulled duck in plum sauce), classic Margherita Pizza, Piccante Pizza (Gluten Free) and the Calzone.

Saying no to dessert would have been a tragedy, we had the Chocolate Brownie (Gluten Free), Ice Cream (my husband chose Coffee and Vanilla), and the sharing dessert Banoffee Pizza for my friends.

We saved approximately £8 on the starters, £15 on the mains and £7 on dessert, which is a saving of £30. Considering an annual tastecard membership after your 60 day trial is just £39.99, if we ate out twice we’d have paid for the full year and then some. Our bill came in at under £25 per person for three courses and an alcoholic drink each. Not bad at all! If you were just stopping in for pizza before or after the cinema or bowling you could just grab two pizzas for around £15 which is great value. On average tastecard can save you £23 every time you dine out, £24 on a pizza delivery order and £1.20 per coffee!
Next week we plan to head to Café Rouge where you can also get 2 for 1 meals with tastecard – can’t wait! Check out all the Cardiff restaurant deals and have a fantastic night out.
